Sammons Park Golf Course is a Public 18 hole golf course located in Temple, Texas.
Sammons Park Golf Course first opened for play in 1934. The course was designed by John Sammons.
Sammons Park Golf Course was once known as Temple Country Club. It is located alongside two large lakes, and water hazards come into play on at least fourteen different occasions. The front nine is more of a target course than the back nine. There are many willow and pecan trees lining the fairways which can alter your shots.
Par for the course is 70. From the back tees the course plays to 6007 yards. From the forward tees the course measures 4479 yards. The longest hole on the course is # 11, a par-5 that plays to 580 yards. The shortest hole on the course is # 10, a par-3 that plays to 163 yards from the back tees.
Watch out for # 11, a 580 yard par-5 challenge and the #1 handicap hole on the course. The easiest hole at Sammons Park Golf Course is # 5, a 175 yard par-3.
The course may be short on length, but with water coming into play on 14 of the 18 holes it’s long on challenge. A new practice center and clubhouse were added in the early 2000s.

They are making improvements. The greens have been suspect but they are making good strides. I hope the progress continues. The course is short, but you can get into trouble on almost every hole with water on 16 holes.

The course conditions have improved greatly in the last 5 months. The course is set for a complete rebuild next year due to the city running water mains and sewer mains across a large part of the course. The new lay out looks very promising.
